Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the first therapy session?
Many are nervous and want to know what to expect — typically, it’s an intake session where you share your concerns, set goals, and the therapist explains how they work. An intake session usually consists of questions from your therapist about you. You can share as little or as much as you like. In this session, you’ll decide how often you want to attend therapy and what you want your sessions to look like.

How do I choose the right therapist?
When you inquire about therapy, you can let us know a little bit about what is going on. You can ask about specialties, approach (CBT, EMDR, psychodynamic), therapist style (directive vs. reflective), and whether a certain therapist stands out as a good fit.

Is therapy confidential?
Yes, therapy is confidential, which means your therapist cannot acknowledge you in public, talk about you, or tell others your personal details. We have to break that confidential relationship if you are being hurt, hurting someone else, or hurting yourself.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ people?
Yes, you are welcome here. Each therapist has experience working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+. We work with families, no matter who is in them.
